Doug Patt, AIA | NCARB is a licensed architect who has practiced in the field for almost two decades. He earned his architecture degree from Penn State University and after international internships in Portugal, Switzerland and France, received his Masters degree in architecture from The University of Pennsylvania. Doug currently works as a consultant in high-end residential architecture.
Doug’s journey has been unconventional. After working abroad Doug completed his masters degree and worked for a well known modernist in Philadelphia, eventually landing in Greenwich, Connecticut at the award winning office of Joeb+Partners Architects. In tandem, Doug also studied classical design, drawing and painting at Barnstone Studios under the internationally renowned Myron Barnstone.
Doug is Co-Founder of RootPhi, LLC a product development company. With partner Brian Witlin, Doug created and spun out two businesses including Golaces, llc, which was acquired by a publicly held footwear company, and Reclaim, llc which licensed technology to San Francisco based soft goods company Timbuk2. He is also an accomplished artist, painter and product developer. In 2008 Doug saw an opportunity. to unveil the sometimes esoteric world of architecture. His concise, educational and inspiring videos have been viewed over 9 Million times globally. Doug has also taught in the architecture programs at The Pennsylvania State University and Northampton Community College.
Doug started writing in 2008 when he felt the need to share his unique views on the profession of architecture. MIT Press hopes his most current book, How to Architect will be a juggernaut, a must read for students, teachers, architects and people fascinated by architecture. Doug is currently working on his third book about how architects turn inspiration into buildings.

Doug is a devoted husband to his wife Susan. He is a dedicated father of two daughters, provider for a yellow Labrador Retriever and Pug, loves to spend time riding his mountain bike and enjoys good food and friends.
